To get a job through a backdoor, follow the money

Press and Marketing are the lifeblood of a company. Businesses need to share all their wins to signal to the world they are winning. One announcements they can never pass up on telling the world is when they raise new money.

A $10M raise, $100M raise, or a $1B dollar valuations are all great headline signals for you on your job search. BECAUSE this means they will be hiring! When you see these announcements I want you to go to their job portals and apply.

Even better if its a startup I want you to connect with the Recruiters and Founders directly. Congratulate them on the raise and let them know you are avaliable to be helpful should they ever need it. The hope is these little touch points will keep you top of mind when they inevitably start hiring.

And now, here are a couple places that have recently raise a couple dollars.

Misdirection of the week

I’m particularly annoyed with Glass Health because they are offering 120k-200k for a remote roles as a founding engineer role. Not bad of. However, in the fineeee print, allll the way at the bottom, you find this devious disclaimer.

“Hybrid in San Francisco (min. 2 days in office per week): $180,000 - $210,000. Fully remote: May be location-adjusted relative to the above”

EYE ROLL! The role is not really remote. Because (1) there is a bias for hybrid and (2) your salary is penalized if you go remote, as if you somehow lose your programming edge if you live in Ohio.

Man, I’m tired of companies trying to pull a fast one. But don’t let me stop you. The salary is still good. Go get your bag.

That’s a wrap
