Jobs Report: 08/07/24

Despite the market, one company is hiring fast

Hey friend! Back with your weekly software engineer jobs report. If you just want the spreadsheet, click the button at the end of the post. Let’s dive in.

The state with the most jobs is…

California! No surprise there as a lot of the institutional money partners for the tech industry is in the Bay Area. Therefore if you follow the money you’ll inevitable be employed by a company in the Bay.

Top company of the week

SpaceX is on a hiring spree! SpaceX top this weeks list with the most open roles, again, primarily in California. Therefore if you’re interested in working with rockets, satellites, and bragging to your friends about all the cool sh*t you’re sending into space then apply, apply, apply because they want software engineers.

Staff Engineer Perks

One company with multiple roles emphasized a hybrid working model for their staff level role but not the others at the senior level. Is a pattern emerging that if you reach staff engineer levels you’ll be given the perks other peers won’t have at the company? Who know but this company might be trying something new.

Big Baller of the week

350k is the max salary of the week. Who’s offering that? Figma! The salary goes to a manger role they opened up. Seems like engineering managers get paid top dollars like a high level engineer would. Looks like this role might be comp’d as a Staff or Senior Staff level engineer. Who knows but the money is in engineering management as well.

Low Baller of the week

Ironically SpaceX our fastest growing company, had the lowest min salary of the set coming in at 120k. Maybe their aiming for a middle of the pack software engineer instead of paying top of the market?

10 Day Contracts Don’t Exist

Unlike the NBA’s 10 day contracts, the software industry has very few contract roles. Only 2 roles made it into the list. One is even a new grad contract role which I’ve never seen. What’s odd about these two roles is they both don’t specify the hourly rate. What does that mean? Low ball incoming?
